IT Support for Refugee Integration
Malteser Germany (2022 – 2023)
In 2022, during the COVID-19 period, I worked with Malteser Germany in Backnang as a Care Assistant and IT Support Provider. This project combined my technical background with humanitarian service, focusing on refugee support and patient care.
Challenges
Refugees lacked digital skills to navigate German systems.
Language barriers made integration difficult.
COVID-19 restrictions increased dependence on digital communication.
My Role & Responsibilities
IT Support: Helped refugees set up electronic devices, troubleshoot internet connectivity, and access essential online services.
Training: Taught newcomers how to use apps like Google Maps, train schedules, and online banking.
Translation & Registration: Assisted with documentation and integration into local systems.
Healthcare Support: Supported medical staff with patient intake, discharge, and digital records.
Solutions Implemented
Developed simple guides and tutorials for digital applications.
Provided multilingual support (English, French, Russian, German A2).
Ensured hygiene and facility compliance through structured workflows.
Results & Achievements
Supported dozens of refugees in learning digital tools for daily life.
Improved efficiency of medical staff by handling technical needs.
Enhanced refugees’ independence and integration into German society.
Conclusion
This project taught me that IT isn’t only about systems—it’s about empowering people. By blending technical expertise with empathy, I helped vulnerable communities adapt to a new world.
